School Psychologists have many different roles within a school building, most of which are intended to help children get what they need to do their best in school. Some of those roles include: identifying the educational needs of a child and helping plan how to best meet those needs, consulting with parents and teachers in helping children, consulting with teachers regarding instruction and individual students, and conducting formal evaluations (sometimes called psycho-educational assessments) when that type of information collection is needed.
Mrs. Tierney is also a member of our Child Study Team. This team is a problem solving team that focuses on how to best support students within their general education classrooms. This team includes our school psychologist, school counselor, principal, the classroom teacher, and the parents. The goal of each Child Study Team individual meeting is to plan interventions, accommodations, or strategies that will best support the child’s academic, social-emotional or behavioral needs.
If you have any questions regarding the Child Study Team process or the evaluation process for students who may need special education support please contact Kimberly at klb39@mcsdk12.org
